serverless print

Also known as: cloud print management, cloud-native print management

Print infrastructure delivered without an on-prem print server, with drivers, queues, and routing handled in the cloud and a workstation agent.

Serverless print keeps the on-prem print server out of the picture. Driver delivery, queue management, secure release, and reporting all happen in the vendor’s cloud. The workstation runs a lightweight agent that submits jobs locally, encrypts the data, and sends to the printer on the LAN when the user releases.

For an MSP, serverless print removes a chronic source of patching, capacity, and VPN-routing pain. It also means a customer with no servers (typical small Microsoft 365 deployment) can still get pull printing, mobile print, and central reporting. Printix is one of the cloud-native print management vendors in this category alongside Microsoft Universal Print and PaperCut Hive.
